Ruppersberger Leaning Against Run for Governor

Posted:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP)- Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger says constituents are asking him to run for Maryland governor, but he's leaning against it.

Ruppersburger says that he thinks he'd "kick butt" if elected, but the Democratic congressman hasn't had time to decide yet. He says he is being pulled from the run by colleagues on Capitol Hill.

Last month, Ruppersberger said he'd announce a decision by Thanksgiving, but said Wednesday that he may wait longer than that.

Ruppersberger would be a late arrival in the race with a June primary and three Democratic candidates already raising money. He'd face Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, Attorney General Doug Gansler and Delegate Heather Mizeur.
