COLLEGE PARK, Md.- The Maryland Women's basketball team is looking forward to start their season at home against Connecticut on Friday, Nov. 15.
The Terrapins, ranked eighth in the preseason Associated Press poll, will face off against number one ranked Huskies at 6 p.m. at the Comcast Center. The game will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
Maryland has four of five starters from last year's team returning for the season. The Terrapins led the ACC in rebounding, as they have in each of the last three years. In 2012-13, Maryland finished with a rebounding margin of +13.7; second in the country to Liberty. The team was ranked third nationally with its field goal percentage of .471.
Last Wednesday, senior forward Alyssa Thomas was voted ACC Player of the Year by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and the league's 15 head coaches. Freshman Lexie Brown was named to the Blue Ribbon Panel's ACC Newcomer Watch List.
In 2012-13, Thomas led the league with 18.0 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game and 5.3 assists per game. She is the only player in the NCAA or WNBA history to average over 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists for a season. Thomas is now ranked sixth on Maryland's all-time scoring list and needs 557 points to surpass Crystal Langhorne's record of 2,247 points scored.
