Trucks at the Center of a Traffic Debate in Millsboro

Posted:

MILLSBORO, Del.- Trucks are at the center of the latest debate concerning the traffic congestion in Millsboro.

The Millsboro Town Council is considering a proposal to reroute truck traffic down Zoar Road with a restriction on large tractor trailers passing through the center of town.

This is similar to Georgetown's situation in 2011, when then-Mayor Brian Pettyjohn oversaw the passage of an ordinance to ban trucks with more than three axels from passing through the center of town.

"It's been successful," said Pettyjohn, a Republican now representing Georgetown in the Delaware State Senate. "But Millsboro is different."

Pettyjohn believes the proposed truck bypass in Millsboro is flawed because the roads weren't designed to handle trucks.

The proposition was tabled until January in Millsboro Town Council.
