Police Warn Delmarva Power Customers to Beware of Scam

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. – The Ocean City Police Department says Delmarva Power customers are the target of a utility scam.

Police say suspects are calling local Delmarva Power customers, particularly businesses, and claiming they are calling from the Delmarva Power "Disconnection Center."

Police say the person then explains to users that their power will be shut off unless a past due balance was paid. Victims are then told to buy a Greendot MoneyPak card and add the past due amount onto the card. Police say victims have also been asked to provide a credit card number.

Ocean City Police are reminding customers that Delmarva Power will not contact customers about late payments until first notifying the customer by mail.

Anyone with information on these scams is asked to contact Ocean City Police at (410) 723-6610.
