WILMINGTON, Del. (AP/WBOC)- A judge has denied a request to reduce bail for a former headmaster of a private school who is charged with dealing in child pornography.

A lawyer for 53-year-old Christopher Wheeler argued in New Castle County Court of Common Pleas Friday that the $1.5 million cash bail was excessive and that Wheeler has no criminal record.

Judge Sheldon Rennie, noting that Wheeler is a pilot with his own plane, denied the motion to reduce bail.

Wheeler stepped down last month as headmaster of Tower Hill School in Wilmington after authorities searched his home and school office on the 1500 block of Mount Salem Lane as part of a child abuse investigation.

Investigators said an examination of computers and digital media that were seized during the searches recovered multiple images of child pornography.

He surrendered to troopers after authorities obtained a warrant charging him with 25 counts of dealing in child pornography.
