RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Virginia is having a bumper year for corn.

The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services said Friday the state's corn yield as of Nov. 1 is estimated to be 150 bushels per acre. That's a record for the state.

If the estimate holds, this year's yield is up 5 bushels per acre from the previous forecast. The record yield was 146 bushels an acre, set in 2000.

Corn producers are expected to harvest 355,000 acres, up 5,000 acres from last year. Production is forecast to be 53.3 million bushels, up 48 percent from last year.

Two signature Virginia crops - peanuts and cotton - are down.
