Vice President Joe Biden Gets Public Service Award

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Vice president Joe Biden has received a public service award from an advocacy group for minority lawyers in Delaware.

The Delaware Barristers Association awarded Biden the Louis L. Redding Lifetime Achievement Award during an event Friday night at the Hotel du Pont. The award is named in honor of a civil rights pioneer who was the first African-American admitted to the Delaware bar and part of the legal team that challenged school segregation in the Brown v. Board of Education case.

In his acceptance speech, Biden paid tribute to Redding, whom he described as a giant in the U.S. civil rights movement.

The barristers association is an affiliate of the National Bar Association, the nation's oldest association of black lawyers.
