Man Arrested After Robbing Elderly Man Outside of Delaware Casino

Posted:

STANTON, Del. (AP) – Delaware State Police say a 33-year-old man has been charged in the strong-arm robbery of a patron outside Delaware Park Casino.

Troopers got to the scene quickly and saw Jason Payne of Mullica Hill, N.J., running away. Police saw him throw down an object that was later found to be the victim's wallet, with cash inside.

State police say the 70-year-old male victim was leaving the casino around 2 a.m. Saturday when he was approached by a man in an underground pedestrian tunnel.

Officials say the man implied that he had a gun and asked the victim for his wallet. The victim did not comply, and the attacker took it by force before fleeing on foot.

According to police, Payne was arrested and charged with first-degree robbery.
