Denton Man Arrested After Two-County Police Chase

Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- Authorities say a Denton man is facing DUI, assault and related charges after he led police on an early Monday chase from Dorchester County to Wicomico County.

Police arrested Richard Wayne Dawson, 20, at around 1:45 a.m. after he fled from Dorchester County sheriff's deputies on Route 50 near Vienna. Dawson was driving a black Dodge Durango and reportedly had two other passengers in the car.

Authorities said that while fleeing, Dawson nearly crashed into an MSP trooper's vehicle at Route 50 and Nanticoke Road in Salisbury, located in Wicomico County.

Police said Dawson eventually stopped at the intersection of Zion Road and Route 13 in Salisbury.

Dawson was taken into custody by state troopers and charged with a DUI/DWI, attempting to flee and elude police, reckless endangerment, assault and numerous traffic charges. Bond information was not yet available.

The two other passengers in the car- a 13-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy- were released to their parents by Dorchester County sheriff's deputies.
