Cold Snap Surprises People in Salisbury

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- Tuesday's winter-like weather had people bundled up, bracing for the wind and even seeing a snowflake or two.

"I was surprised actually today when it snowed," Steve Bennett said. "I saw it snowing a little bit in class and I was like, 'Whoa, I didn't know it was that cold.'"

And he wasn't the only one braving the elements.

"I had to bring out my heavy jacket because it was cold walking around campus, my face got a little freeze in it," Brandon Clark said.

Most aren't ready to welcome the cold but Jeff Trivets says a little cold brings more customers to The Irish Penny.

"For us it's a lot better, you know it's very warm and inviting inside," said the restaurant owner. "Irish food is traditionally meat and potatoes."

No matter what this winter brings, some people are ready and waiting.

"I could bear it, I've got my long johns under here," Clark said. "I'm coping."

Crews Cleanup Chesapeake Bay Debris Following Record Rainfall

Earlier this Summer, flooding in areas up north has brought tons of freshwater and debris down through the Susquehanna River. The debris passes through the Conowingo Dam and ends up in the Chesapeake Bay. Most of the debris consists of large tree trunks and limbs. Now, Maryland's Department of Natural Resources says a lot has been cleared in the upper Bay, but four months later, the cleanup continues.
