DOVER, Del. (AP) - Natural Resources Police have charged a Newark man with illegally trapping a hawk after officers found he was keeping a Coopers hawk on his property.

Forty-three-year-old Steven Cheng was arrested last week. The hawk was confiscated and taken to a bird rescue center.

Officials say hawks are protected under state and federal laws. It is illegal to capture or possess hawks without state or federal permits.

In an unrelated incident, Natural Resources Police have charged a Marydel man with hunting turkey during a closed season after he alleged took four wild turkeys.

Fifty-seven-year-old Isidro Espinal was arrested Sunday and also charged with hunting turkey with a prohibited weapon and other offenses. Police say they seized a rifle and the four turkeys.
