Sexual Assault Suspect Allowed to Graduate from US Naval Academy

Posted: Updated:

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A U.S. Naval Academy football player who was accused in a sexual assault case but ultimately won't face a trial has graduated.

A Naval Academy spokeswoman confirmed Monday that Tra'ves Bush of Johnston, S.C., graduated Thursday. Bush had enough credits to graduate last spring. But the sexual assault case against him and two fellow football players put his graduation on hold.

The academy's superintendent decided in October that Bush's teammates, Eric Graham and Joshua Tate, should be court-martialed for the alleged abuse of a fellow midshipman during a 2012 party. Bush won't face trial, a decision the academy did not explain.

Bush's attorney, Andrew Weinstein, said in an e-mail Monday his client is now a commissioned officer. He called the accusations against Bush "baseless."
