Pilot Error Blamed for Fatal Va. Plane Crash

Posted:

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP)- Federal aviation officials are blaming pilot error for a plane crash that killed four people in Virginia's Great Dismal Swamp.

Media outlets report the National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report Monday on the Oct. 10 crash.

The report says the pilot lost control of the twin-propeller Cessna 340 while maneuvering and crashed into a remote section of the swamp.

The report ruled out mechanical or system failures. It says winds were light and conditions were overcast at the time of the crash.

The plane was traveling from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport in Florida to Hampton Roads Executive Airport.

Killed were the pilot, Ted Bradshaw of Fort Lauderdale, his wife, Mary Anne Bradshaw, and Charles and Diane Rodd of Palm Beach, Fla.
