Building Height Discussion Pushed Back in Sussex County

GEORGETOWN, Del.- Discussion to perhaps raise the height restriction for buildings in Sussex County is on hold for now in Sussex County Council.

The ordinance was deferred to a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission Tuesday morning, after council members heard public comment on whether to increase the county's 42-foot height restriction for most structures.

Kathleen Baker of Rehoboth Beach was one of the few to address concerns over the ordinance. She wrote a letter to the council, saying her sentiments were endorsed by a hundred of her neighbors.

"We need to preserve the beauty of Sussex County," said Baker. "That's why so many people move her."

According to Sussex County Council Communications Director Chip Guy, there is no timetable for the ordinance going forward.
