Dover Getting Modernized C5 Cargo Plane

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. (AP) - Dover Air Force Base is getting ready to welcome another renovated C-5 cargo plane.

Dover base commander Col. Rick Moore says the arrival of Dover's 13th C-5M Super Galaxy will strengthen the base's fleet and enhance its worldwide airlift capabilities.

An aircrew from the 9th Airlift Squadron is scheduled to leave Wednesday for Dobbins Air Force Base, Ga., to pick up the aircraft and fly it to Dover on Thursday.

The plane is the ninth C-5B model built and one of 52 C-5 Galaxys scheduled to be upgraded to C-5M Super Galaxys by 2017.

Military officials say the Super Galaxy features more than 70 upgrades.
