NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe has chosen a member of the Commonwealth Transportation Board to serve as the state's secretary of transportation.

McAuliffe announced the appointment of Aubrey Layne at a news conference Friday at the Norfolk International Terminal.

Layne has been the Hampton Roads representative to the transportation board since 2009. He also is chairman of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission.

Layne currently serves as president of Achievable Dream Academies in Newport News, a partnership between public schools and the business community to help students who are at risk of failure because of socio-economic factors.
