PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Freshman Hakeem Baxter (Philadelphia, Pa.) and Junior Jessica Long (Fort Washington, Md.) have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on Nov. 26.
This is the second time that both athletes have been named to this honor. Baxter led the Hawks with 22 points in a 78-71 win against Mount St. Marys last Wednesday. Hakeem shot 5-for-9 from the floor and added twelve free throws in the effort. He also added seven rebounds in the contest which tied a team high. In four starts this season, Baxter is second in points per game (15.0) and rebounds per game (5.5), adding six assists and two steals over the course of the season. Long paced the Lady Hawks comeback against George Mason this past Saturday afternoon.
Jessica led all Lady Hawks with 27 points, including the game winner in overtime as the Lady Hawks defeated George Mason 93-91. She also led the team with 9 assists in the game, and contributed two rebounds as well. Long, who has appeared in every game this season, leads her team in points per game (18.4) and assists (25).
Baxter and the Hawk mens team will travel to Annapolis for a matchup with the United States Naval Academy on Tuesday, with tip-off slated at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, Long and the Lady Hawks will host Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center, tipping off at 6 p.m.
