Accidental Car Fire at Boulevard Motor Sales in Md. Under Investigation

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md.- The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating an accidental car fire that occurred early Tuesday morning at Boulevard Motor Sales in Salisbury.

Officials said the fire occurred on Tuesday shortly after 12 a.m. at Boulevard Motor Sales, located at 1815 North Salisbury Blvd., when a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer caught fire.

Fifteen firefighters from Salisbury Fire Departments 1, 2 and 16 responded to the blaze and were assisted by a Salisbury police officer, who discovered the fire while on patrol. It took about 20 minutes to get the fire under control. Investigators said they determined the fire started due to a battery charging operation accident.

There were no reported injuries stemming from the incident. The fire caused an estimated $30,000 in damage to the car and an additional $134,000 in contents.

Three additional vehicles housed in the 40' by 40' metal strand automotive repair facility were also damaged in the fire.

Watch: Former Cape May Ferry Sunk for Use as Artificial Reef

On Friday, a former Cape May-Lewes ferry was sunk to become part of Delaware’s artificial reef system. The Twin Capes joined the Del-Jersey-Land reef’s submerged fleet that includes the ex-destroyer USS Arthur W. Radford, which went down in 2011 as the longest ship reefed on the East Coast, and the Zuni/Tamaroa, a Battle of Iwo Jima survivor turned US Coast Guard cutter that plied Atlantic waters for nearly 50 years.
