Posted:

LAUREL, Md. (AP) - Anne Arundel County police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting last week in Laurel.

Police say 22-year-old Dequeone Demetrius Oates of Washington was arrested Friday night in the District of Columbia in the killing of 23-year-old Alex Tyshawn Little Jr. Oates was arrested in Washington on a warrant for second-degree murder.

Police were called Tuesday night to the Russett Green West community and found Little with several gunshots to his upper torso. Little was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the shooting does not appear to be a random act.

Anne Arundel County police worked with D.C. police to locate Oates in Washington. He is being held in Washington pending extradition.

Police say an investigation continues and a motive in the killing remains unclear.

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- After weeks of discussion, the Maryland Avenue drawbridge in Cambridge will not be scheduled. That's a good news for Gary Smith, a waterman who works out of Cambridge Creek like many others. Smith says the drawbridge blocks the only exit to the creek, and should stay on demand to boaters."Drivers can work around it, but the watermen can't.
