PRINCESS ANNE, Md.- Two basketball players who both recorded double-doubles in games this past week have been named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 3.
Sophomore Alexis Udoji, from Randolph, Mass., and senior Francis Ezeiru, from Enugu, Nigeria, have both been named to this honor for the first time.
Udoji recorded a double-double for the Lady Hawks in Tuesday's win against Lincoln University at the Hytche Center. In 31 minutes of playing time, she tallied up 13 points and 15 rebounds, her second double-double this year, while adding two assists, a steal, and a team-high four blocked shots. In over six games this season, Udoji averaged a double-double,10.3 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game. She is also tied for the team lead in steals with 11 and leads all Lady Hawks with 16 blocks.
Ezeiru, who has started every game for the Hawks so far this season, led the team with 10 rebounds and also contributed 10 points in a game at Navy on Tuesday. Officials said that performance gave Ezeiru his first double-double in his career as a Hawk, and the first 10 plus rebound performance for any Hawk this season so far. Through the team's first five games, Ezeiru was averaging 7.4 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game, while adding three steals and a team-high seven blocks.
Ezeiru and the men's team will travel to the University of Maryland Baltimore County to play the Retrievers Monday night at 7 p.m. Udoji and the Lady Hawks will square off against the Monmouth Hawks Tuesday night in West Long Branch, N.J., with tip-off at 7 p.m.
