Orioles Acquire Jemile Weeks and Another Player in Exchange for Jim Johnson


BALTIMORE- The Orioles announced they have acquired Jemile Weeks and another unknown player from Oakland in exchange for Jim Johnson.

The 26-year-old Weeks batted .271/.376/.369 with 17 stolen bases in 130 games for Triple-A Sacramento in 2013. He was the 12th overall selection in the 2008 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami. Weeks has a career .282/.375/.402 hitting average in 361 career minor league games in six seasons with Oakland. He hit .258/.319/.357 in 223 games in the big leagues since 2011. As a rookie, he batted .303/.340/.421 with 22 steals in 97 games.

Johnson, 30, played 50 saves in 59 games while going 3-8 with a 2.94 ERA in over 74 appearances for the Orioles in 2013.

The Orioles will now have 37 players on the 40-man roster.
