Del. Brothers Hoping Their Doritos Ad Will Air During Super Bowl

Posted:

HARRINGTON, Del. (WBOC) - The Super Bowl is just two months away. The football game is known for its commercials.

And for a number of years Doritos has held a "Crash the Super Bowl" contest. It gives amateur ad-makers a chance to win $1 million and have their ad for Doritos air during the big game.

A trio of Kent County brothers hope this year that commercial is theirs.

"When you're young, you're told if you feed a cow chocolate, you get chocolate milk," explained Robert Vogl, standing at AE Vogl Dairy Farm in Harrington. "If you feed a cow Doritos you'd get nacho cheese milk."

That's the idea behind the ad Robert and his brothers, Travis and Jason, made. They were first "moo-ved" to submit a Doritos ad a few years ago.

"We've always considered ourselves pretty fun guys," Robert said. We always have a laugh with each other when we're all together."

"It took us a couple of years to get all our brains together to finalize it and put it together," said Travis.

"Unloading the Doritos. Feeding the cows. Driving a tractor with a bucket load of Doritos," explained Roger, talking about the different scenes in the ad.

All those shots meant needing to buy a lot of chips.

"I basically cleared the shelves out," said Jason. "I went into the store and grabbed every nacho cheese Doritos bag they had."

"43," Travis said. "We bought a lot of Doritos. I think we're still eating those Doritos."

Travis says the cows "udder-ly" love the snack.

"Doritos are a corn-based product. So, we didn't have any trouble getting the cows to eat them."

However, according to the joke of the ad, they also turn the cows' offspring bright orange.

"The calf - that's Nacho Lester. He's our buddy," Robert said.

The brothers say they used Halloween hairspray to turn the calf orange. He's back to normal now.

And in two months Nacho Lester could be a nationwide celebrity. The Vogls are hopeful things will "steer" their way.

"The competition is thick," said Robert. "But we get a lot of positive feedback."

Doritos will announce semi-finalists at six Wednesday morning. Then the public votes.

The brothers say if they win, they'll invest the $1 million in the dairy farm.
