GREENWOOD, Del.- The shelves are empty at Yoder's Country Store in Greenwood and there are only a few customers filling the locally-owned business.

"It seems like people are patronizing the chain stores now more than they are the mom and pop stores," said owner Ronnie Yoder.

Because of that, the countdown to Christmas this year is also the countdown to Yoder's closing for good.

"I think they're really going to miss it, that's what everyone is saying when they come in here you know because it's been here so long, they're really going to miss the store," said part-time employee Darlene Martin.

The customers may miss Yoder's, but employees say other options in town have meant fewer shoppers coming into Yoder's.

"I've seen it go up, I've seen it go down like when Royal Farms came and Byler's in Harrington but when Dollar General came I think we it just hit us hard," Sarah Biasi said.

Chain stores like Wal-Mart and Dollar General can sometimes provide better prices and a bigger selection but Yoder said he offers small local goods and personalized service.

"I have customers that come in here every day and we have a good relationship with them that I don't know if the big stores have that relationship with people that I do," he said.

Saying goodbye to those relationships will be hard for everyone.

"There might be a few tears shed, yea it's going to be hard because we have built up relationships with people in the town of Greenwood that you just can't put a price on that," Yoder said.

The last day for Yoder's Country Store is Dec. 24.
