PRMC Chooses New Company for Security Operations

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md.- In a few months security officers at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury will be wearing different uniforms.

That is because the hospital is switching over to a new security company.

"We're going to be transitioning our security force from PRMC to contract services with Securitas," said Thomas Anderson, executive director of facilities and properties.

Anderson said this change is part of PRMC's ongoing effort to provide better security and protection.

In the past year, a fence and new garage doors were installed in the parking decks aimed at limiting access and keeping people who don't belong there, out.

"We have changed our policies such as 24-hour access into the hospital for visiting and we control the entrance in how we control visitors into the hospital," said Anderson.

Hospital officials also wanted to make clear that the change is not an elimination of positions.

"The current staff possibly could meet the company's standards and that's something on an on going basis," said Bo Kennedy, who is the hospital's newest security specialist.

"Securitas' standards are very high and we are making recommended changes," Kennedy said.

"They've got the experience and education to meet all background criteria and we'll look to Securitas to supplement the force," said Anderson.

Anderson said the changes will take effect Feb. 1.
