Rash of Vehicle Thefts in Harrington, Felton

Posted: Updated:

FELTON, Del. - A Kent County father is asking for the public's help.

Joe Hundertpfund says someone stole his go-kart from a farm in Felton.

"We kept it here at the farm and used it all the time," said Hundertpfund.

It was meant to be a Christmas gift for his four sons.

"Unfortunately, on Thanksgiving day someone decided they would rather have it instead of me," said Hundertpfund.

To make matters worse, Joe's friend, Richard Ashley, says his pick-up truck was also stolen from the same farm.

"It never left the farm. We used it on the (horse) track only," said Ashley.

One of Ashley's friend's spotted someone else driving it in Harrington.

"He sees the guy, the defendant in this case, coming down the road in my pickup. The first thing he did was call Harrington PD and they in turn called the state police," said Ashley.

Delaware State Police arrested 29-year old Robert Bateman for stealing the truck.
Investigators say Bateman also stole ATV's during two burglaries, one along Flat Iron Road in Harrington, the other along Jarrells Road in Felton.

Workers at Taylor and Messick in Harrington were also victims of theft. They say someone hot-wired a bucket truck that was parked in their lot, and drove away by hopping a curb.

The truck has since been returned.

Harrington Police say an employee at a Georgetown salvage yard saw a photo of the stolen truck on WBOC.com and called authorities.

Hundertpfund says he's hoping for the same result by sharing a photo of his missing go-kart.

"I'm hoping somehow, somebody out there will see it or spot it and get it back to me.

He says he's willing to offer a reward for the person who finds the go-kart so that his four sons can have a merry Christmas.
