Nine DUI Arrests in Del. Over Thanksgiving Weekend

Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Preliminary reports from law enforcement agencies indicate that it was a relatively "quiet" Thanksgiving weekend in Delaware with nine people arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs, according to the state Office of Highway Safety.

The OHS said that in addition to the weekend's DUI arrests, officers apprehended three wanted individuals, made two drug arrests and issues 105 citations for various other traffic offenses. Officers statewide conducted a combination of sobriety checkpoints and DUI saturation patrols in conjunction with the launch of the OHS' Safe Family Holiday campaign, now in its 15th year.

The Safe Family Holiday DUI Victim tree received its first four green bulbs for this holiday season but no red bulbs, officials said. Each green bulb represents an alcohol-related injury and a red bulb represents an alcohol-related fatality on Delaware roadways between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day.

One sobriety checkpoint is scheduled to take place this weekend on Friday, Dec. 6 by the New Castle County DUI task force.
