Accomack County Man Found Fatally Shot Behind the Wheel

PARKSLEY, Va.– Virginia State Police say an Accomack County man was found fatally shot behind the wheel, after the car he was driving struck a house late Thursday night.

The driver was identified by police as 35-year-old Steven Pettit.

Troopers said they responded to a call of a single vehicle accident with an unresponsive driver at 10:44 p.m. According to police, the car hit a home in the 27000 block of Gargatha Landing Road in Parksley. The home was not occupied at the time of the incident, police said.

Police said an investigation revealed that Pettit had been shot in the head.

This is an active homicide investigation, according to police. No suspects have yet been identified.
