Westover Hunter Finds Grisly Dead Deer Dumping Site

Posted:

WESTOVER, Md.- Rick Kellog, of Westover, was walking his dog when he came across a gruesome sight.

"I saw one deer, then I saw second deer and I looked and there was a third deer," said Kellog. "They were all stacked up. It's gross. It's just sickening."

What he found was an apparent dumping site for deer. You can see the hooves of a dead deer sticking out of the grass. The deer weren't harvested. They seem to be shot and left to rot.

"You know, it seems like someone just to shot an animal, and just to throw it away for the excitement of shooting them," said Kellog. "If you didn't want to don't shoot, let them go."

And that's a problem. Coastal Bays expert Dave Wilson fears the decomposing bacteria will contaminate nearby watersheds.

"Anytime you have a lot of decaying matter, really anything but especially organic matter like deer, living things and it goes into water bodies in a flux sort of way, it can create some bacteria problems," said Wilson.

The bacteria could harm fish and those living in the area, according to Wilson. And just thinking about it makes Kellog furious.

"It's like pouring oil in the water and we don't do that," said Kellog. "So we're throwing carcasses. It's just terrible."

He said there's enough deer meat out there to feed several families.

"I'm sure somebody else would love to have them to eat," said Kellog. "There's a lot of people in the store that needs it."
