Dover Man Arrested for Assaulting Infant Son

DOVER, Del.- Police have arrested a Dover man accused of assaulting his 2-month-son, leaving the child hospitalized.

Dover police said that on Sunday, Dec. 8, officers were called to Bayhealth Medical Center for a child abuse case. According to police, further investigation department detectives revealed that 21-year-old Jamel Mciver caused multiple contusions and swelling to the facial area of his son.

Mciver was arrested a short time later and charged with first-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of $51,000 secured bond.

The child is currently being treated for his injuries, investigators said.
