Del. Man Charged With 6th DUI Offense

SMYRNA, Del.- Delaware State Police say a Clayton man has been charged with driving under the influence for a sixth time.

Police said they were called to Holly Hill Estates mobile home park in Smyrna early Saturday afternoon for a report of a drunk and disorderly person. A trooper spotted 59-year-old Thomas Kelly leaving the area in a minivan, according to police.

The trooper pulled over the minivan. Police said as the trooper spoke with him, Kelly started the vehicle and put the transmission into drive. The trooper turned off the vehicle and a brief struggle ensued before Kelly was taken into custody.

In addition to his sixth DUI offense, Kelly has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer and failure to have insurance identification in possession. He was ordered held in the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on $7,601 secured bail.
