Accomack County Murder Investigation Continues

Posted:

PARKSLEY, Va. - Virginia State Police continue to work to identify suspects in the murder of 35-year-old Steven Pettit last Thursday.  Pettit was found dead behind the wheel of his car when the vehicle crashed into the side of a home.  After an investigation by State Police, it was discovered Pettit suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Neighbors on Gargatha Landing Road in Parksley said the neighborhood is generally a very quiet one and couldn't believe the news of a murder on their small rural road.

"It makes me wonder, you know, what's going to happen next.  You know, and that these young people really need to get a hold of themselves and learn to respect each other," said Jerry Rivers of Parksley.

WBOC spoke with two people on Monday who said they were a friend and former co-worker of Pettit along with Pettit's cousin.  They claim another person was in the car with Pettit and shot him while Pettit was driving.  They also told WBOC that Pettit was robbed by the other passenger.

Pettit's cousin and former co-worker also tell WBOC that Pettit recently relocated to Salisbury from Accomack County and was in town Thursday visiting family when he lost his life.  Pettit leaves behind two sons.
