Many Md. Schools Closed Due to Winter Weather

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP)- Many public schools and some universities in Maryland are closed in anticipation of winter weather.

Public school closures include: Anne Arundel County, Calvert County, Carroll County, Charles County, Frederick County, Howard County, Montgomery County, Prince George's County and St. Mary's County.

The University of Maryland's College Park campus is closed along with Montgomery College and Prince George's Community College. The U.S. Naval Academy is closed but exams will continue. Johns Hopkins University says it has cancelled daytime classes and postponed exams, but the school will decide later in the day what to do about evening classes.

    In a plan approved by the legislature, full-time minimum-wage workers in Maryland will ultimately make about $875 less annually than they would have under the governor's proposed timetable, an economic analyst said. Legislators voted last week to have Maryland's minimum wage reach $10.10 an hour by July 2018, whereas Gov. Martin O'Malley originally wanted it to reach that amount by July 2016.More
