UD's Delgado Named Nominee for College Soccer News Net Player of Year


NEWARK, Del.– University of Delaware men's soccer freshman forward Guillermo Delgado is one of 29 finals for the Soccer News Net College Boot Player of the Year.

Fan voting accounts for 40 percent of the final tally for the award, while 60 percent of the vote is casted by the staff at Soccer News Net.
Fans can vote once a day for Delgado by accessing the following website, http://www.dcsoccernews.com/collegeboot/mplayerpoll.php.
The editors of each of the sites in the Soccer News Net network nominated up to four local players for the award, each of which will be eligible for the regional player of the year award. Nine additional at-large selections rounded out the nominations. Fans from across the country will be able to vote for the top collegiate player. Voting will commence on December 19, and will be conducted on Soccer News Net's eight regional websites.
Delgado was named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year and was also an All-CAA first team and All-Rookie Team selection. Delgado led the Blue Hens this season with 35 points, 15 goals and five assists and also scored a team-high six game-winning goals. The freshman ranked in the national top-five throughout the entire season in goals, goals per game, points and points per game.
The Tres Cantos, Spain native led Delaware to its best record in program history, as the Blue Hens totaled 14 wins and made its second NCAA Tournament appearance in the past three years. Delgado set new Delaware program records for most points and most goals in a season by a freshman. The forward's 35-point season ties him for second all-time in the Delaware record books for points in a single season. Delgado's 15-goal freshman campaign ranks him fourth all-time in Blue Hen men's soccer history for goals scored in a season.
