Drivers Urged to Watch Out for Black Ice

Posted:

SALISBURY, Md.- A few snowflakes fell Tuesday on Delmarva but the Maryland State Highway Administration is now focusing on the puddles the storm left behind Tuesday night.

"There's a chance, a pretty good chance, that they'll freeze over and we may encounter some slippery driving conditions," said Gee Williams with the highway administration.

Christian Passo says when wintertime rolls around he makes sure to pay extra attention when he's out on the roads.

"When I take my son to daycare it's always a concern, but being observant of where you are and making sure you leave plenty of space in between you and other cars," he said,

Passo says he has to be vigilant on the road because other drivers aren't.

"You definitely have to be concerned, people out there aren't very careful," he said.

Even if a road seems dry, the state highway administration is asking drivers to slow down and watch out.

"The key thing is even if you're on a dry road, you still have to look out for small spots where water actually gathers, it freezes very quickly," Williams said.

And that freeze happens quicker on bridges and overpasses because cold air circulates beneath them.
