Appeals Court to Hear Case of Ex-U.Va. Lax Player

Posted: Updated:

RICHMOND, Va. (AP)- Attorneys for a former University of Virginia lacrosse player are seeking a new trial on charges he killed his ex-girlfriend in 2010.

The Court of Appeals of Virginia is scheduled to hear Wednesday from attorneys for George W. Huguely V and the state. Huguely was convicted in February 2012 in the beating death of 22-year-old Yeardley Love of suburban Baltimore.

Attorneys for the Chevy Chase, Md., man are citing four issues in their appeal. They include the decision by a judge to move forward with Huguely's trial when one of his attorneys fell ill. They are also questioning bench decisions regarding jury selection and instructions to jurors.

Huguely is serving a 23-year prison term for Love's slaying in Charlottesville.
