Christiana Mall Stores Lose Power for Hours

Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del. (AP)- Stores at Christiana Mall were left without electricity for more than seven hours during the second power outage there this holiday shopping season.

Delmarva Power says the cause of the partial outage on Wednesday is under investigation. Spokesman Nick Morici says an underground cable was repaired, but it's not yet clear why the repair was needed.

About 100 stores went dark for hours starting around 9:45 a.m. and only large department stores and about three dozen smaller stores and restaurants still had power. Some darkened stores still managed to serve customers, some by candlelight.

The mall lost power on Black Friday for less than an hour. Delmarva Power attributed that outage to a fuse in the mall's electrical system.
