Dorchester County Fire Sprinkler Activation Ruled Intentional

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- A 16-year-old male is being accused of intentionally activating a fire sprinkler in a Dorchester County business.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office said a sprinkler was activated Thursday morning at around 12:30 a.m. inside the Adventist Behavioral Health building. The suspect reportedly broke the sprinkler head in the ceiling of a bathroom, causing the system to activate. Investigators said employees in the building, located in the 800 block of Fieldcrest Drive, discovered the fire.

It took one firefighter from the rescue fire department 10 minutes to control the sprinkler head.

No injuries were reported. The alarm caused an estimated $500 worth of damage to the building and $100 of damage to its contents.

An arrest is pending.
