Salvation Army Thrift Store to Reopen

Posted:

CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Six months after a fire ravaged the Salvation Army Thrift Store in downtown Cambridge, the organization is set to reopen the store in a new temporary location Monday of next week.

Maj. Brooks Gilliam with the organization saud that although they are still working to get back into their old location, he's glad an opening is right around the corner.

"Temporary or not, we're excited to finally have a thrift store to open back up to the public." said Gilliam.

June's fire destroyed most everything in the store, and without having a storefront for the past six months, the Salvation Army is down 80,000 dollars from last year in their efforts to help the community, on top of the 10,000 dollar shortfall in bell ringing donations this year.

"It has had a financial impact, but it's also had an impact on the community from the standpoint that the community has stepped up to help us help others." said Gilliam.

The major says due to the generosity of people in the community, the store will be able to reopen on Monday with fully stocked shelves.
