SALISBURY, Md.- A Salisbury man is behind bars following accusations that he threw full cans of beer at his mother and then slammed a door on her hand, resulting in an injury requiring medical treatment.

Salisbury police said that shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to a home on the 100 block of Washington Street to investigate a report of an assault with a knife.

Police said the investigation revealed that 37-year-old Kevin Lamont White and his mother were in an argument when White threw two full cans of beer at his mother, striking her in the chest. Investigators said that during the struggle White displayed a knife and began pushing his mother out the door. Police said White closed the door on his mother's hand, which caused a severe cut to one of her fingers. She was taken to Peninsula Regional Medical Center for the hand injury and White was taken into custody.

White was charged with first- and second-degree assault, as well as reckless endangerment and ordered held without bond in the Wicomico County Detention Center.
