WACO, Texas – The American Football Coaches Association released its All-Americans for the 2013 season, and Salisbury University senior cornerback Andre Carter became the 16th Sea Gull to earn the honor.
Carter closed out his career as one of the top defensive backs in program history. During his senior campaign, Carter picked off six passes, which ranks sixth in program history for a single-season total and Carter finished second in program history with 16 career interceptions.
This season, the Huntingtown, Md., native totaled 48 tackles, 30 of which were solo stops, and batted down nine additional passes.
Carter is the first AFCA All-American for the Salisbury program since 2011, when offensive lineman Alex Smith was selected. Carter is the first defensive player honored since lineman Paul Cynewski in 2009 and first defensive back since Byron Westbrook in 2006.
Along with the AFCA All-American honor, Carter has also been named an All-American by the Beyond Sports Network, a first-team all-region selection by D3football.com, the Empire 8 Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and an Empire 8 first-team all-conference selection.
