CAMBRIDGE, Md.- Authorities say a Cambridge woman is facing animal cruelty and related charges after a pit bull was found frozen to death while chained up outside her home.

The Dorchester County Sheriff's Office said 27-year-old Kristen Leigh Meninger of the 2000 block of Horns Point Road was served a criminal summons on Friday. According to police, she was charged in connection with an incident that occurred on Dec. 12 when Dorchester County Animal Control officers found a pit bull chained outside that had apparently frozen to death. The officers could find no evidence of food or water being provided to the dog and it also had an open wound on one leg, police said.

In addition to animal cruelty, Meninger was charged with inflicting unnecessary pain and suffering, animal cruelty, failure to provide food and water, aggravated animal cruelty, restraining a dog outside in a manner that restricts access to food and water and unsafe and unsanitary restraint of a dog. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Jan. 27, 2014 in Dorchester County District Court.
