BALTIMORE (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard is looking for a man who has made 11 false distress calls since October.
Officials say the calls originated from the Kent Island area and involved the same male voice over VHF-FM channel 16.
Authorities say the Coast Guard and other agencies conducted air and boat searches because of the calls. Officials say the searches have cost the Coast Guard $45,000.
Making a false distress call is a felony. The Coast Guard Investigative Service is offering a $2,000 reward for information that leads to the identification of the person involved with the hoax calls.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Investigative Service at (410) 576-2515.
