Posted: Updated:

NEW CASTLE, Del. (AP)- Police say a Clayton man was drunk and speeding when he lost control of his car and crashed into a retention pond in New Castle.

The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. Friday. New Castle County police say the driver, 41-year-old Robert Blisard, hit the rear bumper of another vehicle, causing him to lose control of his car and crash into the pond.

The driver of the other vehicle and a passenger in Blisard's car were treated for minor injuries.

Police say a witness helped rescue Blisard by swimming to the vehicle and breaking the back rear window with a hammer.

Blisard was charged with his second driving under the influence offense. Police say he was also being sought for failure to pay a fine for driving without a license.
