Navy Pilot in Va. Faces Additional Charges

Posted:

BEDFORD, Va. (AP) - A Navy pilot charged with extorting a 14-year-old Bedford County girl with whom he was having an online relationship is facing additional charges.

Thirty-year-old Daniel Harris is accused of threatening the girl if she didn't send sexually explicit pictures of herself to him.

He is also is charged with using an electronic communications device to facilitate offenses against children.

Prosecutors said Monday the new charges stem from communications authorities say Harris had with an undercover Bedford County investigator posing as an underage girl.

A preliminary hearing on the initial charges is set for Jan. 7.

Harris is in weapons-training school at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach. He's still employed by the Navy but not receiving pay during confinement.
