REEDSVILLE, Va. (AP)- A man and three dogs have been rescued after a sailboat ran aground near the Little Wicomico River.

The Coast Guard says the man reported running aground about 300 yards from shore at 11:30 p.m. Monday. A Maryland State Police helicopter crew located the 59-foot sailboat in the vicinity of Smith Point at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The man and the dogs were transferred to a response boat from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes, Md. A rescue swimmer lowered by a helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, N.J., assisted in the rescue.

The Coast Guard says the man and the dogs were taken to Smith Point Marina in Reedsville. He refused medical treatment.
