23-Year-Old Hopes to Inspire With Pizza Shop

Posted:

TRAPPE, Md.- People may still be recovering from Christmas dinner, but the phone is still ringing at Bella's with people ordering pizza. Matthew Franey says it all starts with the ingredients.

"All of our sandwiches, subs, are all 100 percent fresh. We don't do anything frozen." Franey told WBOC.

But making pizza and subs is only part of the reason Franey wanted to open Bella's.  He wanted to inspire.

"My thought is that hopefully this could inspire some kids that they can do something other than their life than work at McDonald's." Franey said.

He's only 23-years-old, and opened the restaurant all on his own, with money he saved up from working as a server in his mother's restaurant, "The Hidden Gem," just 187 steps up the road.  His customers think it's a message worth spreading.

"It's remarkable.  I mean it's actually inspiring, and that's a word I don't get the chance to use very often." said Drake Ferguson, a regular customer who lives in the town.

Franey says he hopes his successes inspire other 20-year-olds to follow their dreams, and show that they too can open their own businesses if they work for it.
