Suspect Wanted for Stealing Elderly Woman's Purse, Car

NEWARK, Del.- Delaware State Police are asking the public for help in identifying a suspect connected in the theft of an elderly woman's purse and car from the Chestnut Hill Plaza Shoprite while she was shopping.

Police say the incident occurred on Thursday at approximately 3:15 p.m. as a 91-year-old female was grocery shopping in the Shoprite located at 37 Chestnut Hill Plaza, Newark when an unknown male suspect followed her around the store and removed her purse from her shopping cart. Police say the purse contained an undisclosed amount of cash and car keys.

Authorities say a review of video surveillance captured the suspect exiting the store and driving away in the victim's vehicle.

Officials describe the suspect as a black male, 20-30 years of age, 5-foot-6, 190-220 pounds with a large build. The suspect was last seen wearing  a dark zippered hooded sweatshirt with "ECKO UNLTD" and gray sweat pants.

Police describe the vehicle as a 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis, silver in color, four door, white wall tires and silver rims. The car has Delaware Registration #133567.

Police say if anyone observes the vehicle they are asked to call 911. If anyone has any information about this incident they are asked to contact Delaware Sate Police Troop 6 at 302-633-5000.
