Keeping Home Safe While Staying Warm

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del.- Cold temperatures across Delmarva have people staying indoors and taking extra measures to stay warm.

"We're turning on all the heaters," said Zenvia Thomas of Dover.

"I'm going to stay inside the house. We got a little fireplace and stuff like that to keep warm," said Roland Patterson of Dover.

Some of the measures that people take on cold nights can be dangerous.

When turning up the heater is not enough, space heaters are a good way to get some extra warmth. But they can be very dangerous. When using space heaters, remember to never place them near anything flammable like curtains or furniture. Also never plug them into extension cords. Always plug them right into the wall and always keep them on a level surface away from foot traffic.
