BALTIMORE- Lacrosse Magazine announced its preseason NCAA Division III men's lacrosse rankings Wednesday morning and Washington College checked in at ninth on the publication's list.
The Shoremen finished last season 13-5 overall and 5-3 in the Centennial Conference. Washington made its 30th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance, defeating Colorado College, 10-7, in the first round before falling to eventual NCAA Division III National Champion Stevenson in the second round. The Shoremen were ranked as high as fourth in the nation in Division III during the regular season and wrested the Charles B. Clark Cup away from archrival Salisbury University with a 7-6 win over the Sea Gulls in the annual "War on the Shore" rivalry game.
The Shoremen are joined in the 20-team rankings by two other Centennial Conference schools: Dickinson (fifth) and Gettysburg (20th). Three of the Shoremen's 2014 non-conference opponents also appear on the list: Salisbury (fourth), Washington and Lee (13th), and St. Mary's (16th).
Last month, Washington was ranked 10th in Division III by Inside Lacrosse's Face-Off Yearbook. The Shoremen will open their 2014 season Feb. 22 with a 1 p.m. home game against Goucher.
