CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Wesley College's football team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Team of the Year, it was announced by the ECAC office on Thursday afternoon. This is the fifth time that the Wolverines have earned the honor, all coming within the last seven years.
Wesley will be honored on March 27, at the Eastern College Football Awards Banquet, hosted by the ECAC at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The Eastern College Football Awards Banquet will feature the presentation of the ECAC Football Awards as well as the Lambert Meadowlands Awards.
"Winning the ECAC Team of the Year is a tremendous honor," Wolverines Head Coach Michael Drass said. "There is great football played on the East Coast and we are truly humbled to receive such a great award."
Other recipients of the award this year were Duke University (FBS), Towson University (FCS) West Chester (Division II). The ECAC Team of the Year awards was selected by Lambert Meadowlands Poll voters. The highest-voted ECAC member institution in each division received the honor.
Recording a 10-3 record in 2013, Wesley made its ninth-straight NCAA Playoff appearance before falling to National Runner-up and top-ranked Mount Union, 62-59 in the Quarterfinals. The Wolverines battled back from a 31 point first quarter deficit and outscored the Raiders, 39-14 in the second half. Wesley was ranked seventh in both the AFCA and D3football.com Polls to close out the 2013 season.
